McConnel adds telescopic arm and forward-reach to 77 Series

McConnel’s Power Arm 77 Series mid-range reach mower line-up has gained another two models with the addition of a telescopic arm and forward reach combination.

The Tele-VFR versions provide greater flexibility when it comes to stretching sidewards thanks to the telescopic outer arm, while the variable forward reach can be used to position the flail head further forward where the operator can see it more easily.

Its engineers say positioning the head in a more natural field of view enables operators to remain aware of the road and terrain ahead, encouraging higher working speeds and greater precision.

Current Power Arm 77 Series mowers are built for tractors from 100hp weighing 4-5t and have arm configurations providing 6m, 6.5m and 7m of horizontal side reach, the larger two of these figures being achieved with a telescopic assembly.

There are also 6m and 6.5m variable forward reach versions – and now the VFR feature is available with a telescopic arm for added versatility, especially when cutting around roadside obstacles, signs, posts and street furniture.

In confined lanes or restricted environments, the arm can be positioned behind the tractor wheel for close-in cutting, giving operators greater flexibility where space is limited.

VFR tweaks

Previously reserved for McConnel’s flagship heavy-duty machines, some changes to the VFR setup have been made to suit the more compact 77 Series.

These include a phased hydraulic cylinder system to maintain the correct flail head position as the arm is moved forward and back.

This replaces the mechanical parallelogram arrangement of the larger machines to reduce weight and increase the amount of head movement available.

The flail head angling ram has also been repositioned to improve the overall arm profile and allow greater manoeuvrability in challenging working environments.
