Fendt 500 Vario innovation strikes gold at AGRA exhibition

The Fendt 500 Vario took the gold medal for innovation at the 64th annual AGRA exhibition in Gornja Radgona, Slovenia.

AGRA is a trade fair that presents technologies relating to production, breeding and processing in agricultural/forestry machinery and food processing equipment.

The Slovenian event draws around 100,000 visitors and features nearly 2,000 exhibitors from over 30 countries each year.

Each year, the organisers of the fair come together with a jury of independent technical experts and trade journalists to select the most innovative machine.

Particular emphasis is placed on future potential for sustainable productivity gains in line with resource conservation.

The Fendt 500 Vario was chosen due to its access to the following technologies:

  • The VarioDrive continuously variable transmission (CVT);
  • The four-cylinder 5.0L AGCO Power CORE50 engine capable of putting out 164hp (up to 174hp with DynamicPerformance);
  • The Fendt iD low-speed concept (which achieves maximum torque from low engine speeds, leading to lower fuel consumption),
  • Fendt DynamicPerformance (the brand’s sensor-controlled power boost that adds hp to the tractor when the machine is putting components under pressure).

Fendt was represented at AGRA by its distribution partner Inter Agrar, who accepted the award on the brand’s behalf.

Fendt’s tractor product expert in Central and Eastern Europe, Vitezslav Chrapavy commented on the recognition the 500 series received, saying:

“Agriculture in Slovenia is characterised by small-scale operations, with many family-run farms focusing on grassland, livestock farming and viticulture.

“Professional farms, like those of our customers, rely on efficient and precise machinery to work their land.

“This completely new generation features VarioDrive, the AGCO Power CORE50 engine, Fendt iD and Fendt DynamicPerformance, delivering high area output with low fuel consumption,” Chrapavy said.

Chrapavy added hat the gold medal win affirmed the company’s approach of efficiency productivity when it comes to its machinery.

500 series

The Fendt 500 series is now in its fourth generation, and is becoming a standout machine for the German brand.

Its access to Fendt’s technology combined with its ability to do most jobs on a farm has made it somewhat of an all-rounder tractor.

The Gen-4 500 series debuted last year to significant acclaim.

The Fendt 516 Vario won the 2026 Tractor Of The Year (TOTY) MidPower award, which is reserved for tractors with horsepower ranging from 150-280.

The 500 series also drew heavy praise at Poland’s largest agricultural machinery trade fair, Agrotech Kielce, with the jury at that event pointing out its “versatility, operational efficiency and user-friendliness”.

Some agricultural contractors in Ireland that use Fendt branded tractors are now discussing possibly scaling down part of their fleet from 700 and 800 series machines to the 500 series.

Fendt continues to market the AGCO Power CORE50 engine as the engine that “delivers six-cylinder performance” with the efficiency of a four-cylinder.

That sentiment is gaining the 500 series plaudits right across the agricultural machinery sector.
