TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) launched a gold exchange-traded fund (ETF) in collaboration with five investment managers on Monday, August 10, 2026. “This gold ETF has been a shared aspiration of ours for perhaps 10 to 15 years,” said Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Board of Commissioners Chair at the Financial Services Authority (OJK), during the launch event at the IDX complex in Jakarta on Monday.
The five investment managers are PT Trimegah Asset Management, PT BRI Manajemen Investasi, PT Mandiri Manajemen Investasi, PT Syailendra Capital, and PT Indo Premier Investment Management.
Friderica explained that gold ETFs comply with Sharia principles based on a fatwa issued by the National Sharia Board of the Indonesian Ulema Council.
He stated that this gold ETF offers convenience and liquidity, as it is traded on the IDX. He noted that gold ETFs serve as a safe-haven investment during periods of volatility.
Meanwhile, Samsul Hidayat, President Director of PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia (KSEI), hopes that gold ETFs will become a new alternative investment instrument in the Indonesian capital market.
Samsul stated that gold ETFs strengthen the national bullion ecosystem by integrating the capital and bullion markets.
The launch of the gold ETF, said Samsul, is the result of collaboration among the OJK, self-regulatory organizations (SROs), investment managers, custodian banks, participating dealers, bullion banks, and industry players in the Indonesian capital market.
Samsul explained that the entire process of establishing the gold ETF takes place within a single ecosystem—ranging from the provision of physical gold and the recording of electronic gold ownership (EGR) at KSEI to the trading of the gold ETF on the IDX.
