Brazil holds public consultation for use of debentures to finance ports, airports

The Brazilian ports and airports ministry launched a public consultation to update and simplify the regulation for the use of local bonds known as debentures.

Debentures have been one of the main mechanisms for financing projects in the country’s infrastructure sector.

There are two types used by infrastructure players: incentive debentures, which offer tax exemption for the investor; and infrastructure debentures, which offer tax exemption for the company issuing the bonds.

“The update of the debenture rules looks to incorporate new measures to simplify procedures, with a view to providing greater transparency to the issuance processes of the two types of securities,” said the ministry in a statement.

The consultation will be open until July 20 and more information is available via this link.
