Ballast Rock Asset Management has appointed Michael G. Welch, CFA, as Head of Investor Relations and Capital Formation, a newly created role focused on expanding the firm’s capital base and investor relationships. Welch will lead outreach across accredited individual investors, RIAs, family offices, and institutional investors as Ballast Rock scales its real estate, venture capital, and private credit platforms.
Welch joins Ballast Rock after more than a decade at PPM America, where he most recently served as Senior Managing Director and Head of Relationship Management and Investor Relations, overseeing global coverage for a $73 billion asset management platform spanning private equity, private credit, commercial real estate, fixed income, and equities. He previously held senior business development and institutional sales roles at Core Capital Management, Oppenheimer & Co., and Lehman Brothers, working with insurance companies, foundations, endowments, family offices, consultants, and wealth managers.
In his new role, Welch is expected to deepen Ballast Rock’s presence across institutional and intermediary channels and help launch and position new private market strategies. The firm sees growing demand for private market exposure paired with high-touch investor service, transparency, and access, and is aiming to broaden distribution while maintaining a disciplined approach to risk management.
