
The Korea Association of Machinery Industry appointed Kim Sang-mo, former head of the product safety policy bureau at the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, as its new standing vice chairman during its 201st board meeting held on the 20th at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Pangyo, Seoul.
Kim graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in economics and earned a master’s degree in economics from the same university’s graduate school. Kim entered public service through the 38th civil service examination. Kim later served as director of the machinery and robotics division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as director-general for industrial technology convergence policy, and as spokesperson, before becoming head of the product safety policy bureau at the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards.
“The machinery industry faces a period of great transition marked by the restructuring of global supply chains, digital transformation and carbon neutrality,” Kim said in an inauguration address. “Based on the experience and networks spanning the public and private sectors that I built over 30 years at the trade ministry, I will do my best to serve as a stepping stone for the growth of the association and its member companies, and I will make strengthening the global competitiveness of the machinery industry my top priority and work tirelessly to achieve it.”
The Korea Association of Machinery Industry is a group of domestic machinery companies including Doosan Enerbility and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and it handles policy proposals, export support, exhibitions and international cooperation. The standing vice chairman oversees the association’s operations while serving as a bridge connecting the industry and the government.
