MoU signed between JU, DPDT to strengthen research, intellectual property protection

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, June 21, 2026 (BSS) – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between Jahangirnagar University (JU) and the Department of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks (DPDT) under the Ministry of Industries to promote joint research and intellectual property protection.

The agreement was signed at the university’s council room in the administrative building around noon. JU Treasurer Prof Dr Md AbdurRab signed the MoU on behalf of the university, while Director General of DPDT Md Jahangir Hossain signed on behalf of the government agency, said a press release tonight.

JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Md ShamsulAlam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Mohammad Nazrul Islam, deans of different faculties, directors of institutes and other senior officials were present at the signing ceremony.

Professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering and Special Project Manager (SPM) of the Technology Transfer Office project, Prof Dr Md Shahedur Rahman, among others, also attended the programme.

Under the agreement, teachers and researchers of different departments of Jahangirnagar University will work jointly with DPDT in areas including collaborative research, protection of intellectual property rights, preservation of research ownership and dissemination of research findings and publications.
