The Ministry of Natural Resources is maintaining burning prohibitions in the Northwest.

WAWA — Bans on open burning outside of municipalities will be lifted in northeastern Ontario in time for the weekend.

On Friday, the Ministry of Natural Resources announced it is lifting its restricted fire zone in areas 16, 17 and the affected portion of 20 as of Saturday, July 25.

The fire ban was put in place July 18 in an effort to control the number of human-caused fire during what has been a devastating fire season.

The affected areas generally includes Timmins, Iroquois Falls, Smooth Rock Falls, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Wawa, Caramat and Lake Superior Provincial Park.

The restricted fire zone remains in place throughout most of Northwestern Ontario.
