The closing workshop of the project to Promote Resilience to Climate Change and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources in Tunisia (PRESTo), held on September 18, 2026, saw the announcement of the fourth generation of the IREY AQUA application.
The application aims to support and improve irrigation management by expanding its use to vegetable farming across Tunisia.
IREY AQUA was developed through a partnership between the Directorate General of Rural Engineering and Water Resources Management, the National Institute of Field Crops and the Institute of Bioeconomics in Florence, part of Italy’s National Research Council, as part of the technical and scientific cooperation under the PRESTo project.
The workshop, dedicated to presenting the results of the PRESTo project, brought together representatives of the General Directorate of Rural Engineering and Water Resources Management, the Agency for Agricultural Extension and Training, the National Institute of Field Crops, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, the Italian Cooperation University, as well as representatives of regional services and relevant agricultural organizations.
The initiative is part of efforts to promote sustainable water-resource management and strengthen resilience to climate change through digital solutions aimed at improving irrigation efficiency and rationalizing water consumption.
The PRESTo project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the European Commission for training and agriculture, seeks to strengthen communities’ resilience to climate change through sustainable natural-resource management.
One of the project’s key components is the updating and development of a new extension of the IREY AQUA application in partnership with the National Institute of Field Crops, with the aim of improving irrigation management for vegetable crops.
