MILAN On May 26, the North Central Missouri Regional Water Commission received a final amended dam construction permit from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) allowing them to proceed to construction of the Roy Blunt Reservoir Dam.  The commission has worked closely with MDNR for a number of years leading up to the permit being granted.

The dam was designed by Olsson, and the bid process and construction will be overseen by them.  Allstate Consultants will act as the Owners Representative for dam construction, as well as lead engineer for non-dam related projects.  The bid process was re-opened last week which will lead to the selection of a General Contractor for dam construction.

“We have worked hand-in-glove with MDNR on many aspects of the reservoir, and we remain grateful for all they have done”, said Harve Rhodes, chairman of the commission.  He added, “This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by our engineers and our oversight agencies including MDNR.”

The 2,580-foot-long earthen dam will be 78 feet high at its maximum depth.  A 2,100 foot long and as much as 65 feet deep slurry wall will be placed below the dam to minimize seepage under the dam. The 50-foot-wide concrete spillway will be located toward the east end of the dam and will contain a weir that sets the reservoir normal pool level.  The reservoir size at normal pool level will be 2,352 acres, with a contributing drainage area of 23.6 square miles.  Construction is anticipated to take three to four years.
