“The Belarusian delegation is actively participating in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) in Ulaanbaatar. Viktor Galanov, the head of the delegation, held several strategic meetings focused on strengthening international environmental partnerships, securing financial support, and advancing national initiatives. Notably, in a meeting with Dashpurev Buriad, the State Secretary of Mongolia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, Belarus proposed geological services and the provision of equipment from companies such as BelAZ, MTZ, Amkodor, and drilling machinery. The Mongolian representatives showed interest in Belarusian machinery and expressed willingness to explore further co-operation opportunities. Additionally, the Deputy Minister invited the Mongolian delegation to attend the upcoming INNOPROM exhibition in Minsk this autumn,” the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection said.

According to the Belarusian agency, during a meeting with the leadership of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification Secretariat, Belarus obtained the Secretariat’s support for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) project targeting the Gomel Region’s Polesie area. The discussions included possibilities for securing expert and financial support to develop the national reports required by the convention.

Furthermore, the Belarusian delegation engaged in talks with officials from Mongolia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Environmental Protection Committee under the Government of Tajikistan. They also met with Ruslan Edelgeriyev, the Special Representative of the Russian President for Climate and Water Resources, where they co-ordinated their stances on the convention and explored additional areas for mutually beneficial co-operation.
