MARION, Ill. – Officers recently recovered 33 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in southern Illinois.
The traffic stop happened on Interstate 57 in Marion, Illinois over an undisclosed infraction. Authorities arrested three people in connection with the bust.
Investigators say a K-9 alerted officers to something suspicious in the pulled-over vehicle. During a search, Marion police found around 15 kilograms, or roughly 33 pounds of crystal meth. The Marion Police Department described the seizure as a “load of ice.”
The department first posted about the bust Thursday morning via Facebook. WSIL-TV reports that Linda Cuchna, 44, Des Plaines, Illinois; Angel Nieves, 37, Brookfield, Illinois; and Rafael Caro Jr., 37, Kansas City, Missouri have been arrested and charged with drug possession.
This follows another notable drug bust in neighboring state Missouri earlier this week, during which Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers recovered 88 pounds of cocaine.
