Under this new directive, individuals with licenses that expire before January 16, 2024, can renew them at the previous fine rates. However, the revised fee structure will be in effect for licenses expiring on or after January 16, 2024.

Previously, fines for expired licenses ranged between 75 to 500 rupees annually. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Ammara Athar, confirmed that the renewal fee for trainee permits will remain fixed at 500 rupees.

Citizens can renew their international and regular driving licenses either at home or at licensing offices. Athar fears that strict enforcement will be applied against underage and unlicensed drivers.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced an in-depth investigation into a fake international driving license scandal. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and a provincial committee will spearhead the inquiry. The scandal came to light when Pakistani missions abroad found differences while verifying driving licenses issued by the KP Transport Department, which were not recorded in the department’s database.
