ChinaAMC Digital Gold ETF: Low-Cost Physical Gold Investment for Retail Investors | Hong Kong – News and Statistics

China Asset Management (Hong Kong) has rolled out a new gold exchange-traded fund (ETF) this week, offering retail investors an affordable route to physical gold. The ChinaAMC Digital Gold ETF, debuting on the Hong Kong stock exchange on Friday, charges a 0.4 percent management fee and requires a minimum board lot investment of roughly HK$355 (US$45), undercutting all existing gold ETF products in the city as the firm seeks to draw younger investors.

The fund will be available for trading in Hong Kong dollar, US dollar and yuan counters, and it follows the London Bullion Market Association’s morning gold benchmark price. Its holdings are backed by physical gold stored in Hong Kong vaults. Don Ng, director of digital assets at ChinaAMC (HK), said at a media briefing on Thursday that the fund’s value is relatively independent because the underlying asset is physical gold rather than exposure to a company or issuer, which enhances its appeal to investors.

The introduction comes as gold prices swing due to geopolitical tensions and macroeconomic uncertainty, with investors navigating between safe-haven demand and headwinds from a stronger US dollar. Physically backed gold ETFs in Hong Kong saw a record US$732 million in inflows in April, according to the World Gold Council.

For most retail investors, the listed ETF will operate like a conventional physically backed gold ETF traded on the stock exchange. The tokenised feature currently applies only to the fund’s unlisted share class, which is built entirely on the Ethereum blockchain and accessible via regulated digital channels with a minimum investment starting from US$1.
