DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) – Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources is asking for information about a series of bald eagle deaths.
Five dead bald eagles have been reported within a two-week span in Garden Peninsula, Delta County.
Conservation officers have ruled out natural causes, predators, or car crashes as causes of death for the birds.
Bald eagles are protected under federal and state law.
DNR Conservation Officer 1st Lt. Mark Zitnik says it’s important to shepherd our natural resources for future generations.
“Our bald eagle is America’s bird,” Zitnik said. “They’re a highly regarded, beautiful animal. And us here at the DNR, we’re here to protect our natural and cultural resources so future generations can enjoy these birds and other animals.”
If you have information about the eagle deaths, you can contact the DNR by calling 800-292-7800.
