BRIDGE COMING UP NEXT THAT BEGINS LATER THIS SPRING. TODAY IN MANHEIM, ONE CHURCH PRESENTED A CHECK FOR $3 MILLION IN MEDICAL DEBT BEFORE TEARING IT IN HALF. IT WAS A SYMBOLIC GESTURE TO SHOWCASE THE CHURCH’S WORK TOWARD MEDICAL DEBT RELIEF. NEWS EIGHT PHOTOJOURNALIST BOBBY TUFARIELLO SHARES MORE ON CHURCH LEADERS INITIATIVES. YOU HAVE A CULTURE IN YOUR CHURCH OF SHARING IDEAS AND YOU HAVE A CULTURE IN YOUR CHURCH OF HELPING OTHER PEOPLE. IT DOESN’T TAKE MUCH TO START SOMETHING REALLY BIG. ELIZABETH WAS GETTING READY TO START KINDERGARTEN AND SOMETHING JUST WASN’T RIGHT. SHE WAS REALLY SLUGGISH AND SHE WASN’T FEELING WELL AND SHE WAS IN DIABETIC SHOCK. WE HAD NO IDEA IF SHE HADN’T BEEN SEEN THAT NIGHT, SHE WOULDN’T HAVE MADE IT. IT STARTED WITH OUR CHURCH WITH A SMALL FUNDRAISER, 122 CHURCHES ACROSS 38 COUNTIES IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THIS OVER THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. THE INSPIRATION IN MANY WAYS WAS WAS THE EXPERIENCE THAT OUR DAUGHTER HAD. FOR THAT TO NOW HAVE A SILVER LINING, THAT BECAUSE OF THIS, THERE ARE GOING TO BE FAMILIES WHO MAYBE CAN KEEP THEIR HOME, WHO CAN HAVE FOOD TO EAT, WHO CAN, YOU KNOW, HAVE THIS MEDICAL BILL THAT’S NOW TAKEN CARE OF AND DON’T HAVE TO MAKE, YOU KNOW, AN IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE? ALL OF THESE FAMILIES ARE GOING TO BE HELPED AS A RESULT. IT’S AMAZING. I HOPE FOR THEM THAT THAT THAT, THAT HOSPITALS COST LESS MONEY. WE WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A BIG WORSHIP SERVICE AND CEREMONIALLY TAKE A BIG PIECE OF PAPER THAT’S GOT $3 MILLION OF DEBT ON IT. AND TEAR IT TO PIECES TO SHOW THAT $3 MILLION OF MEDICAL DEBT WILL BE ERADICATE
