Jason Day has acquired an equity stake in PAYNTR Golf and will collaborate with the company on a new golf footwear collection scheduled to debut in fall 2024.
More than an endorsement deal, Day over the next six months will be actively involved in the design and development process for the collection, which has been dubbed the X1 Proto. The vision of the collection is to marry Dayâs classic style preferences with PAYNTRâs proprietary propulsion technology, award-winning traction, and advanced on-course comfort features.
Day, the former No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, is currently wearing PAYNTRâs X 006 RS model in PGA Tour competition. Prototype testing for the new line will take place throughout the 2024 season, with Dayâs feedback helping refine the design and functionality of the footwear â from comfort and performance to traction and waterproofing.
“We are thrilled to partner with Jason on this exciting venture,” said PAYNTR Golf co-founder and President Mike Forsey. “His unparalleled expertise and passion for the game will continue to be invaluable in creating a truly innovative golf footwear collection with a new tech classic style to elevate the on-course experience of golfers around the world.”
PAYNTR is a relative newcomer in the U.S. golf market, having debuted its first products in March 2021. The company has received early validation, including nods from MyGolfSpy for the best spikeless golf shoe (002X) in 2022 and most comfortable golf shoe (X 001F) in 2023.
âOver the last several years, PAYNTR Golf and their footwear has made a name for themselves amongst many professional golfers on TOUR,â said Day, a 36-year-old Aussie who in 2015 won the PGA Championship and briefly ascended to the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking. Financial terms of his equity stake werenât disclosed.
âWhen the opportunity to join this team, and their mission to give golfers a true on-course performance advantage, was proposed, it fit perfectly. Their golf footwear expertise and attention to detail is unmatched,â Day added. âBut for me, having the unique opportunity to work closely as an owner on a collaborative collection from concept to reveal was key to the full partnership coming together.â
Day had been with NikeNKE the past seven years, but left the company at the start of this year and in January signed an apparel deal with Malbon Golf, becoming the brandâs first PGA Tour ambassador.
The relationship with PAYNTR runs even deeper with Dayâs financial stake.
âI have thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in this new partnership. From concept to the prototyping process has been eye opening,â said Day. âBeing able to contribute my insights and preferences to shape PAYNTR Golfâs next generation of footwear is truly exciting.â
