WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Plenty of damage can happen during a storm, but what about after? The Better Business Bureau says some scammers sell fake services after a huge storm has torn through town.
Following a heavy storm like this weekend, scammers go door to door selling fake contracting to those in need of home repairs.
We spoke with Monica Horton, the president of the Better Business Bureau about how to avoid hiring those who won’t deliver on their promises.
“The bottom line is, don’t make a purchasing decision when someone is standing at your doorstep and asking to see their solicitation permit. I know within the city limits of Wichita Falls in order for them to be knocking on doors, and soliciting business, they’re required to have a solicitation permit,” Horton said.
She said the main red flag she sees is a solicitor pressuring the homeowner for upfront payment without having the intention to deliver.
