The Social Security Administration (SSA) just confirmed that beneficiaries will receive Social Security payments during Holy Week. All retired workers and SSDI beneficiaries whose birth dates range between the 21st and 31st will receive their benefits on Wednesday, March 27th. However, keep in mind that retirees who claimed benefits before May 1997, won’t receive payments on that day since their benefits are sent on the third day of every month, regardless of their birth date.
Social Security provides a broader safety net beyond retirement income. Although retired workers and their dependents receive the majority of payments (70%), Social Security also offers critical assistance to people with disabilities and the survivors of dead workers. According to the SSA, approximately 19% of benefits go to disabled workers and their families, and nearly all working individuals (91% of those aged 21-64) receive disability insurance in the event of a long-term sickness.
This is especially important given the high risk of disability, with more than a quarter of young adults expected to experience it before retirement. Furthermore, Social Security survivor benefits assist families who have lost a loved one, accounting for 11% of total payouts, and nearly all young workers (96%) have survivor insurance to protect their children and spouses.

3 facts you might not know about Social Security benefits
Social Security can pay benefits to parents
Most individuals are aware that in the event of a worker’s death, benefits may be awarded to surviving wives and children. Yet, you might be surprised to learn that the Social Security Administration (SSA) can also provide advantages to a survivor parent in specific situations.
Social Security payments assist in securing the financial future of the family following the death of an employee. For those who met the eligibility requirements and were dependent on the worker’s income before their death, survivors’ benefits offer financial support. The dependent parents of the worker, in addition to their spouses and children, can also be qualified for a survivor’s benefit.
Spouses might not receive 50% of the worker’s benefit amount
If a spouse receives reduced retirement benefits before beginning their benefits, they will not receive half of the worker’s benefit amount. If you reach full retirement age (FRA), your spouse’s benefit may be up to 50%. If you qualify for both, your benefit will be paid first. The decrease rates for retirement and spouses’ benefits differ, and if you wait until your spouse reaches retirement age, your benefit will remain lower.
Survivor benefits might be reduced if your spouse’s retirement benefits exceed yours
If your spouse’s retirement benefit exceeds yours and they die before, your survivor benefit may be lowered but perhaps increased. The retirement insurance benefit limit applies if the deceased employee begins receiving reduced benefits before reaching full retirement age.
