Raise a glass to Mike Maher of Milton.
He won the WhistlePig Piggybank Rye raffle at R&L Liquors in Lewes.
The raffle raised $1,075 for the Open Space Alliance campaign to buy and protect the 30-acre Fourth Street Preserve.
The alliance is an initiative of the Greater Lewes Foundation.
“We hope other downtown businesses will join with their own creative fundraising ideas to help support the preserve,” said Ted Becker, one of the owners of R&L Liquors.
Becker said a second raffle is in the works.
The Open Space Alliance is holding two other fundraisers: a 5K Race for Open Space on April 20 at George H.P. Smith Park and the Open Space Art Show at the Inn at Canal Square on July 27.
Alliance Board Chair Jim Ford said the campaign has raised about $2.2 million toward its goal of $8.3 million to buy the preserve. Ford said the deadline has been extended to September 2025.
