According to the Department, the store would pay workers overtime when they worked for 41-58 hours a week, but if an employee worked for more than 58 hours, the employer paid its workers in cash for straight time only.The Department of Labor has recovered $155,000 in back wages and damages for workers who were denied overtime. The store has also been fined $187,000 in civil penalties for repeated violations. In addition to not paying overtime, the report says El Torito did not keep accurate time cards.Despite the accusations, employees of SuperMart El Torito spoke positively to KMBC off-camera about their experience working at the store.
