CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Music filled the air at Canfield High School Saturday afternoon as the community helped its high school band.
A pasta dinner and basket auction was held at the high school cafeteria.
Proceeds from the event go towards purchasing and repairing instruments and activities for the students, including trips to concerts and competitions.
The band also served as entertainment for the benefit.
Canfield Band Parents president Mark Smallwood spoke with us about the importance of the community getting behind them.
“Anyone associated with a musical instrumental program in a school these days knows it’s a struggle to keep kids in band,” said Canfield Band Parents president Mark Smallwood.
“One of the things…we’ve been trying to instill is once those kids get into fifth, sixth grade, seventh, and eighth and get a taste of what it’s like to be in this group, we want to keep them for high school,” he said.
The band is hoping to go to Chicago during spring break.
