A Clermont County man is facing charges after police said he pretended he was being kidnapped in an effort to receive money.According to police, Travis Hays, 21, sent a victim text messages pretending to be someone holding Hays against his will and demanding $2,500 for his release.After an investigation and speaking with Hays’ friends and family, police said the victim and Hays’ family became suspicious that it was Hays sending the text messages because he had done other things to get money from them.Police learned that at the time those messages were sent, Hays was safe and in the care of Clermont Mercy Hospital.Hays has now been charged with extortion, telecommunications fraud and intimidation.
