Share

  • Stablecoin market capitalization fell to about $266 billion from roughly $280 billion in May, a decline of about $15 billion, according to the analysis.
  • Stablecoin market capitalization moved largely sideways from October last year through May this year, indicating that new liquidity entering the market was either absent or insufficient.
  • The decline in stablecoin market capitalization suggests even existing liquidity is leaving the cryptocurrency market, while weak Bitcoin demand is limiting the token’s rebound.

The market capitalization of stablecoins, a key gauge of liquidity in the cryptocurrency market, has fallen by about $15 billion since May.

On Aug. 10, on-chain analyst Darkfost wrote that the total stablecoin market cap had declined to about $266 billion from roughly $280 billion in May.

Darkfost also highlighted that stablecoin market capitalization moved largely sideways from October 2025 through May 2026. That indicated new liquidity entering the market was either absent or insufficient even during that period.

More recently, the situation has deteriorated further. With stablecoin market capitalization now turning lower, the problem is no longer limited to weak new inflows. Existing liquidity is also leaving the cryptocurrency market.

“Demand is not recovering even as Bitcoin stabilizes,” Darkfost wrote. “That weak demand is limiting Bitcoin’s rebound.”

The decline in stablecoin market capitalization suggests liquidity is in fact exiting the cryptocurrency market, he added.
