JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the most popular seinen manga and anime currently running, with many fans wondering when the next part of the acclaimed anime adaptation will be released. According to recent reports, this may now be on the way sooner rather than later.
A new production registration in China suggests that an anime incarnation of Steel Ball Run is on the way. This comes years after a similar registry in Japan, although the intended worldwide release of the new registry makes it seem as if the ball is rolling faster. Given that the most recent season of the JoJo anime, Stone Ocean, is now several years old, this would largely match up with the series’ production history.

A New Anime Season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure May Be On the Way
According to Aliyun, Alibaba’s automated trademark application service, which was reported on X (formerly Twitter) by an anime news account, the seventh part of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga, Steel Ball Run, was registered for an anime adaptation in April 2024. It’s likely that the series will still be animated by the Japanese studio David Production, so the level of potential involvement from e-commerce giant Alibaba or a subsidiary company, such as Alibaba Pictures, is unknown. A similar copyright was registered in Japan in 2022 for new trademarks, so it’s also questionable whether this revelation will proceed any time soon or result in an actual anime series.
As mentioned, Steel Ball Run is the seventh part of Hirohiko Araki’s iconic JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga series. It served as something of a reboot for the brand, taking place in a different timeline compared to the first six arcs. This story arc was preceded by Stone Ocean, the latest JoJo storyline to be adapted into an anime. Having a new season in the next year or so would make sense, as the past few seasons of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime have been two to three years apart from each other. With Stone Ocean‘s initial anime release concluding in December 2022, it’s seems likely that these new trademarks mean the ball is already rolling on production of Steel Ball Run.
