The 2,000 Guineas market had two major shake-ups over the past fortnight. The first came after Field Of Gold’s explosive success in the Craven. The second was when news of Twain’s omission surfaced.
Twain was considered Field Of Gold’s chief threat according to the betting and Expanded has stepped in to fill the void for Aidan O’Brien, having initially been slated for a softer touch in the Tetrarch Stakes at the Curragh.
The readiness of Expanded, an exceptional prospect who almost won the Dewhurst seven days after landing his maiden, must be in doubt. Recent high-profile O’Brien disappointments in the 2,000 Guineas suggest this Classic is less of a priority for Ballydoyle than in years gone by.
