Jackie Shroff ‘Bhidu’ Trademark Lawsuit: Actor Allows Only Krushna Abhishek To Imitate Him

In May this year, Jackie Shroff moved the Delhi High Court against the infringement of his personality and publicity rights for the use of his voice, name, photographs, and the term ‘Bhidu’. The actor has a registered trademark and these can’t be used without his consent. However, Krushna Abhishek is the only person who is authorised to mimic Shroff, following a personal call from the Bollywood actor. For those who’ve come in late, Krushna is popular for doing an impersonation of Shroff on The Kapil Sharma Show and other TV shows like Bigg Boss.

Krushna Abhishek allowed to mimic Jackie Shroff

When Jackie Shroff called Krushna Abhishek, he praised him and extended his blessings. The latter’s impersonation of Shroff is quite a hit amongst fans. Hence, when the Bollywood star had taken a legal action to protect his personality and publicity rights, several fans were left disheartened thinking that they wouldn’t get to see Krushna as Jackie dada again. However, turns out that Krushna is the only person who is allowed to mimic Jackie. Shroff has given Krushna his blessing to continue mimicking him.

Interestingly, Krushna is set to appear in the film titled Welcome To The Jungle, where Jackie Shroff takes on the role of the antagonist. The film also features Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Lara Dutta, Raveena Tandon, Rajpal Yadav, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Mika Singh, and Daler Mehndi

When Jackie Shroff filed a lawsuit

Jackie Shroff approached the Delhi High Court against the unlicensed use of his name and personality attributes by several entities for commercial gain. In May, 2024, Justice Sanjeev Narula had issued summons to the entities on the lawsuit. The counsel team of Jackie Shroff said that individuals cannot be allowed to mislead consumers into buying products thinking they are endorsed by the actor.

“Jackie Shroff is so well known. People will think it is endorsed by him.He has a certain marketability to his name. It can’t be done without his consent,” the counsel said.

“All are using his name, images and earning huge money. This is all defamatory stuff…there are distasteful dirty words in voice over. There is nothing legitimate about any of this,” added the counsel.

Similar lawsuits have previously been filed by Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor.
