The last time we discussed RV owners buying lemons and feeling as though the industry doesn’t care, our readers felt it was an opportunity to speak up. Well, this time around, Liz Amazing is out helping another couple get the treatment they deserve after spending over $500,000 on a new motorhome.
Today’s story is about David and Ariana, newlyweds who aimed to create some lifelong memories on their honeymoon with a new motorhome. Instead, they seem to have been getting the runaround from, wait for it, Tiffin Red Bay management and technicians.
Now, whenever Liz Amazing starts stirring the waters, Tiffin usually pays attention. Heck, if you remember the case with Paul and Dani’s 2024 Zephyr, which had cracks and a plethora of other issues, Tiffin offered a complete buyback on the unit, but only after phone call after phone call and e-mail after e-mail with Tiffin shot callers; there may be hope for the RV industry after all.
This brings us to David and Ariana’s RV, which is reported to have been showing problems right off the lot. Maybe that’s why they were able to secure a nearly $700K unit for just $525K in cold-hard cash. I mean, what dealership would drop $175K off a unit if they weren’t just trying to get it off the lot? If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
This is but one facet of the current RV industry, so be sure to do your research thoroughly. After all, you’re buying a home on wheels and possibly spending your life savings. It doesn’t hurt to tick off all the potential risk boxes.
After purchasing the Allegro Bus 45 OPP, within the first half-hour of leaving the dealership in West Palm Bay, rain hit the area, and David started to notice water pooling into the unit at the passenger side window; it was enough to flow over and spread to the electronic dashboard. Towels were the solution until David finally made it to Red Bay.
Then, the hot water heater wouldn’t work, so these owners were bathing with lukewarm water. Up next, a hole in the ceiling was discovered, and finally – well, almost – what lots of RV owners are aware of, a slideout that just kept getting stuck; it required a manual closing sequence handled by a handful of willing RVers and bystanders. This had to be done several times throughout this unit’s life.
Then, more issues arose. Heat pumps and AC operation would cause parts of the unit to somehow push water into the unit, and finally, there were overheating issues at the rear of the unit, leading to some melted goods—yes, it was hot—and even overheating problems with the engine. Let’s not even talk about the auto-level issues, which led to a twisted frame every two to three days.
What else could go wrong? Well, the list is even longer than that, and David tells us all about it in the video below. But the real cherry on this RV owner’s cake was being promised a one-week upkeep time on the problems this unit is presenting, and it’s now been six weeks. Did I mention that David is out there, too, away from his wife?
One piece of information that I found rather interesting is that David claims there’s only one more week left on his unit’s warranty, and with the ongoing repairs, it doesn’t look like the RV will be done by the time the warranty expires. I wonder what’ll happen at that point. Feel free to chime in with your comments anytime you feel the old grey matter firing on all synapses.
So, where to from here? At this stage, David is still in Red Bay, awaiting the completion of his heavily refurbished unit. When it’s all said and done, it clearly won’t feel or perform like new by the time it’s finished, and this is where Liz steps in to work her magic.
Since her RV-related video material has amassed quite the following, Liz stepped in and contacted Bob Tiffin about how this case can be an “opportunity” to create a “feel good story,” one where Tiffin would ultimately come out as the hero of the story.
The response from Tiffin? I guess you’ll have to check out the video, but if you don’t have time for that, Liz and viewers can rest assured that David and Ariana are in “good hands.” Be sure to see another Liz Amazing episode where we find the results of this stand-together moment.
