‘Captain Cool’ Goes Official: Marketing King Dhoni Trademarks Nickname

NEW DELHI (IANS) – Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has filed for the trademark of his iconic moniker, ‘Captain Cool’, with the Trade Marks Registry portal.

According to media reports, Dhoni intends to use this trademark for services such as training and coaching. His application has been approved and officially advertised, appearing in the official journal on June 16, 2025.

Known for his calm and composed leadership style, which led India to victory in three major ICC tournaments, Dhoni has increasingly embraced his persona and shown innovation in his marketing endeavors. A notable example is his recent advertisement featuring the song ‘Bole jo Koyal’, where he incorporated the trending phrase ‘Thala for a reason’, showcasing his expanding off-pitch presence.

Recently, Dhoni was also inducted into the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame. The ICC celebrated Dhoni, who captained India to the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy, for his composure under pressure, unparalleled tactical acumen, and his pioneering influence in the shorter formats of the game.

Although he retired from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni remains an influential figure, continuing to play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
