AEW filed a trademark that indicates fans may finally get their fair share of meat.
Ahead of Revolution back in March, plans were being formed for a Meat Madness match featuring some of All Elite Wrestling’s beefiest men. However, plans changed, and Tony Khan turned the bout into an All-Star Scramble instead. Wardlow, Powerhouse Hobbs, Lance Archer, and Brian Cage did have a meaty confrontation in the middle of the match, but the bout also featured smaller wrestlers such as Chris Jericho, HOOK, Dante Martin, and Magnus.
Now, a new trademark filing points to speculation that the company could be reviving its plans for a big man match. According to the US Patent and Trademark Office, AEW has trademarked the phrase “Meat Mayhem” for the following uses:
Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services in the nature of live wrestling performances; Entertainment services in the nature of production of wrestling programs and events; Entertainment services, namely, an ongoing multimedia program featuring wrestling distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; Entertainment services, namely, production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of wrestling
Tony Khan Addressed Scrapped Meat Madness Match At AEW Revolution
Speaking on a media call prior to Revolution, AEW President Tony Khan opened up about his decision to change Meat Madness into the All-Star Scramble, saying that some of the key roster members he wanted involved were currently out of action.
“I wanted to put a lot of the big wrestlers and get the crowd fired up for a multi-man scramble, a Meat Madness match. I think the crowd would enjoy it and it would be a lot of fun.
But some of the wrestlers I was hoping to use….right now, Miro and Keith Lee are both out. Neither one is available, and some of our big men being out injured, I wanted to have the depth in the field to do the match I originally envisioned and people would enjoy that.
We have other great stars and rivalries to showcase, so I made it an All-Star Scramble. When we get all of our big men healthy at the same time, I still want to take the Meat Madness concept off the shelf, get it out of the freezer, thaw it out, but until then I put Meat Madness on ice.” (h/t Fightful)
