Security beefed up after fresh intel warns of another terror strike by TRF in Kashmir

Security has been beefed up in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir following intelligence inputs warning that ‘The Resistance Front’, the terror outfit believed to be behind the Pahalgam terror attack, was planning a fresh strike.

According to a report by CNN-News18, security in various areas has been beefed up, locations with high footfall are under surveillance and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been deployed in vulnerable areas.

A senior official stationed in Kashmir has been quoted as saying in the report that terrorists may target Kashmiri Pandits, migrant labourers, or even security forces personnel.

“The input was received on Monday, and security forces have reiterated that troops deployed for Road Opening Parties (ROP), Naka duties, and other operations must remain alert and vigilant. Personnel have also been instructed not to use mobile phones while on duty,” said a senior official privy to the developments.

The fresh intel alert comes days after the TRF released a video last week and threatened Indian security forces over the demolition of houses in Kashmir. The residences of several persons suspected to be involved in terror activities were demolished amid a heightened crackdown by security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

The TRF further stated that the attacks would continue if the demolitions persisted. It later issued a press releases claiming that it had no involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead and several others injured.

The security of vital installations, vulnerable areas, high-value targets, and pickets has been enhanced to thwart any nefarious designs of adversaries, the official quoted above said, adding that all possible proactive and preventive measures will be implemented under close supervision at all levels.

“All units have been instructed to cease casual movements and activities after receiving credible input suggesting that terrorists may target unarmed personnel. Movements have been restricted, and personnel have been advised not to visit any location without prior intimation,” the official added.

The Resistance Front is an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, a proscribed terror organization based in Pakistan. The TRF has been involved in several attacks on civilians and security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir, security officials said.
