USA: Duration Capital Partners has made a minority equity investment of more than $600m in Watco Companies.

This will be used to support the short line and terminal group’s long-term objectives including assuming full ownership of Industrial Rail Services, which operates rail assets at six Dow Chemical facilities in the USA and Canada.

Watco and Duration have partnered on transactions since 2018. ‘The team at Duration shares our commitment to long-term thinking and operational excellence’, said Watco EVP & CFO Rick Baden on June 17. ‘Together, we’ve navigated several important initiatives over the years, and this expanded partnership positions us for continued success.’

Founded in 2024 as a spin-out from Oaktree Capital, Duration Capital Partners is a private investment firm focused on long-term investments in North American transport infrastructure.

Co-CEO Emmett McCann said ‘we believe in building durable, values-driven businesses alongside exceptional management teams. Our relationship has grown into a deep collaboration, and we have helped many customers expand their businesses. Watco is a world-class operator, and we are proud to be their long-term partner.’
