Tata Motors will launch the new Sierra and Sierra EV between August and September this year, ahead of the festive season.
As Tata Motors gears up to launch the Harrier EV in the market in the coming weeks, the homegrown carmaker is also giving final touches to its next electric SUV — Sierra EV. A few years ago, Tata announced the resurrection of the Sierra nameplate in both combustion and electric powertrains.
First displayed as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo, a pre-production prototype of the Sierra was unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. Test mules of the SUV have been spotted on multiple occasions in recent times. While we already know a lot about its exterior design, we hardly have any clue about its interiors.
Tata Sierra/Sierra EV: Dashboard Design
Tata Motors has now filed patent applications for a dashboard and a centre console with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. While the design of the dashboard is similar to the new range of Tata cars, the centre console tunnel is completely different from the current crop of Tata models.

The patent reveals a familiar dashboard layout featuring a central touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver’s display, sleek horizontal AC vents. and Tata’s new 4-spoke steering wheel with a backlit screen displaying the logo of the brand. The dashboard features a sleek, stepped design that flows downward gracefully, complemented by a centrally mounted speaker—carried over from the concept model.
The patent for the centre console has been filed by Tata Motors’ EV subsidiary— Tata Passenger Electric Mobility — and hence it is most likely to be reserved for future EVs. It retains the floating design with lots of storage space for knick knacks and cup holders along with wireless charging station, and a sliding armrest. The rest of the interiors are still under wraps.

Other expected features to be offered by Tata Sierra will include panoramic sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, voice-enabled features, and auto climate control. Safety will be taken care of by six airbags, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System offering features like lane-keep assist, lane change assistance, automatic emergency braking, etc.
Tata Sierra: Powertrain details
Tata Sierra will be available in both ICE and EV derivatives. The former will be available with petrol and diesel engine options. This includes a brand new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 168 bhp and 280 Nm and a familiar 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine powering Harrier and Safari. This unit is capable of pushing out 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will likely include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. There’s no clarity on powertrain details of the Sierra EV yet.
