Day four of the Paris 2024 Olympics is another jam-packed schedule with medals up for grabs in gymnastics, fencing, judo, rugby, shooting, surfing, swimming and table tennis.
This evening sees the return of Simone Biles as the American superstar looks to win her fifth Olympics gold in the women’s team final, while Team GB gymnasts Becky Downie, Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton, Ruby Evans and Abi Martin compete for the podium.
Nathan Hales has won Team GB’s third gold medal of the Olympics with a stunning performance in the men’s trap shooting. In a thrilling fight for gold, Hales beat China’s Qi Ying to achieve a new Olympic record in the event.
Later in the pool, Britain’s men will try to claim 4x200m freestyle relay gold – a race they won in Tokyo. Duncan Scott, Matt Richards, James Guy and Tom Dean are out to defend their title.
Earlier, the men’s triathlon was postponed at the last minute due to polluted water in the Seine River, with tests revealing water quality levels that were “still above the acceptable limits” for Tuesday’s race to go ahead on time and leaving athletes facing uncertainy.

Olympics 2024: Women’s gymnastics final
Georgia-Mae Fenton scores a 14.000 and Becky Downie earns a monumental 14.933 to keep Team GB’s hopes of a medal alive
Simone Biles’s balance beam score is 14.366 which will do nicely for the Americans. They’re dominating this final with just the floor routines to go for them.

There’s no time to breathe in this rotation as Simone Biles leaps up onto the beam kicking off with a triple wolf turn. There’s a small wobble from the American great but nothing major.
A full twisting double back spin sees her dismount wonderfully and that’s going to be more than good enough to keep Team USA on line for the gold medal.

Suni Lee’s score on the beam was a massive 14.600.
Over on the uneven bars, Team GB’s Becky Downie is up. She’s an expert on this apparatus and will need to perform well to give Britain a chance at a medal.
And boy does she! Switching superbly through the bars, twists, spins and a perfect landing. That’s got to be a good score…

I don’t think there’s been a bigger smile than Suni Lee’s right now. Following Jordan Chiles’ balance beam routine, Lee steps up and produces the best routine of the day.
At least from what I’ve seen. Quick, skillful and perfectly poised, Lee puts Team USA back in control of this final with Simone Biles still to come.

Olympics 2024: Women’s gymnastics final
Steady composure may be Team GB’s way to a medal here. They’re up on the uneven bars and Alice Kinsella starts off with a solid 13.300.
If the gymnasts can avoid any mistakes here and on the balance beam they may be in with a chance. That’s a big ask though.

Olympics 2024: Women’s gymnastics final
The balance beam continues to take victims. Jordan Chiles, one of Team USA’s stars, hops onto it and immediately falls off!
Well, not immediately but she wasn’t performing any difficult moves and just slipped. That’ll be a one point deduction which brings the final alive again for those hoping to contest the gold.
Chiles scores a 12.733. Big mistake but it shouldn’t cost the USA much, they’ve got points in the bank after the first two apparatus.

Olympics 2024: Women’s gymnastics final
Near the halfway stage, Team USA are leading comfortably by three points and, for a brief moment, Great Britain hit third before China finished off their balance beam runs and took the bronze medal position.
Team GB have a couple of tricky apparatus to come so it’ll be a tough ask for them to medal from here. Here are the standings:
- 87.432 – USA
- -3.102 – Italy
- -3.966 – China
- -5.501 – Great Britain
- -5.834 – Romania
- -6.267 – Brazil
- -6.666 – Canada
- -7.867 – Japan

Suni Lee from the USA attacked the uneven bars looked a little bit off her form. She doesn’t fall but a replay shows that she brushed a foot on the ground before nailing the landing.
Her routine was very difficult (6.300) so we’ll see how she scores…
A 14.566! with an execution score of 8.266. Incredible.
