Tigers trade proposal could land them A’s slugger

The Detroit Tigers are enjoying an incredible 2025 season as we near the All-Star break, boasting the league’s best record, with 59 wins and 35 losses.

It’s safe to say that the team is in a much better situation than that of last year, when they were guaranteed sellers, which in turn allowed them to make their promising playoff run that saw them eliminate the Houston Astros early on in the postseason.

But this season, it’s safe to say that the Tigers are going to be buyers as they look to find their way back into the playoffs and even into the Fall Classic for their first World Series appearance since 2012 and first championship since 1984.

And though the team could use a third baseman and another reliable arm or two in the bullpen, The Athletic’s Jim Bowden believes that the team could make a run for another trustworthy bat in the lineup, namely Brent Rooker of the Athletics.

The A’s outfielder/designated hitter is coming off of a masterful 2024, which saw him hit 39 homers, going over 30 for the second consecutive year, bat in 112 runs, boast a .293 batting average, and finish 10th in AL MVP voting.

2025 isn’t seeing the DH slow down any, either, as he currently sits with 19 home runs and 50 RBI, playing in all 94 games that the A’s have had this year, showing his durability and consistency, which is also something the Tigers could use.

The A’s have not spoken of any plans to get rid of Rooker, despite the team sitting dead last in the American League West, 17.5 games behind the leading Houston Astros, but if the A’s do sell and put Rooker on the market, the Tigers should be chomping at the bit to boost their lineup.
