The Ministry of Public Works and Environment provided an update on the “successful deployment of new road paving equipment imported earlier this year, with the asphalt paver already in active use at Mullet Bay, St. George’s.”
A Government spokesperson said, “Since roadwork commenced at the site on 12 May, the paver has been central to resurfacing operations, marking the first time this advanced machinery has been used on Bermuda’s public roads.
“Minister of Public Works and Environment, the Hon. Jache Adams, JP, MP, expressed his satisfaction with the early results. The Minister visited Mullet Bay Road last week to inspect the results, alongside the Ministry’s Principal Highways Engineer, Tina Beer-Searle and St George’s West MP Kim Swan.”
Minister Adams stated: “This equipment is already proving its worth. The paving project at Mullet Bay has demonstrated exactly what this new gear is designed to do – support our crews in delivering high-quality, long-lasting repairs, more efficiently than ever before.
“I must stress that this is not just about asphalt; it is about investing in tools that raise the standard of our infrastructure and bring meaningful improvements to people’s daily lives.”
A Government spokesperson added, “The new paver forms part of a larger suite of modern paving machinery that arrived on the Island as part of Phase I of the Government’s road infrastructure modernisation strategy.
“The Ministry also acquired a compact milling machine and a Shuttle Buggy material transfer vehicle alongside the paver. Each machine plays a specific role in resurfacing, enabling better asphalt quality, smoother coverage, and reduced downtime.
“The paver, specifically, features ergonomic controls, precision coverage, and enhanced operator visibility—all of which contribute to more consistent road finishes.
“While the shuttle buggy and other equipment are gradually integrating into the Ministry’s workflow, the paver has already made a tangible difference on the ground.”
Minister Adams continued: “We are doing things differently. We are not only upgrading equipment, we are also investing in our people. The operational teams have undergone several weeks of training and continue to build their skills with each project. Mullet Bay is the first of many locations that will benefit from this new approach.”
