Medical centre receives new equipment from charity

A health centre has received new medical equipment thanks to a charitable donation.

Budleigh Salterton Medical Centre was able to purchase a dermatoscope following a £1,000 donation from the Budleigh Salterton Health Centre Charity, which received the funds from the Norman Family Trust.

Philip Griffin, chair of the Budleigh Health Centre Charity, said: “On behalf of the practice, I would like to sincerely thank the Norman Family Trust for its incredibly generous donation.

“The contribution has made a real difference — thank you again for the kindness and support.”

The Norman Family Trust is a grant-making charity based in Budleigh Salterton, established in 1979 by W.K. Norman, after he sold his Norman’s Cash & Carry business.

The trust supports charities and non-profit organisations across the South West.

Mr Norman set up the trust to give back to the region that supported his business for many years.

Following a surprise call from the trust’s trustees offering equipment funding, the Budleigh Salterton Health Centre Charity consulted with medical staff and chose to purchase the dermatoscope, a device used daily by doctors to examine and diagnose skin conditions.

Mr Griffin said: “We aim to support our valuable staff with modern equipment and help avoid patients having to travel out of the local area for tests and treatment.”

The Budleigh Salterton Health Centre Charity was established in 1996 to promote health and wellbeing in the community.

It works closely with the medical centre to identify funding needs that can improve patient care and support staff.

Managed by a committee of volunteer trustees, the charity is funded through donations, legacies, and the generosity of local residents.

Over the years, it has raised thousands of pounds to buy medical equipment and resources.

These contributions help ensure that patients receive high-quality care close to home, reducing the need to travel further afield for diagnosis and treatment.
