Medequip awarded East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull community equipment loan service contract


Medequip contractMedequip has announced that it has been awarded the contract to deliver the Community Equipment Loan Service for the East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull.

The new service will commence on 1 April 2025, marking a significant milestone in Medequip’s commitment to keeping people independent across the UK.

With over 30 years of experience supplying, maintaining, collecting, cleaning and recycling community equipment, Medequip is well-positioned to deliver an effective community equipment service for the population of East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull.

The service aims to enhance and maintain the quality of life and independence for children, young people, and adults with care and support needs, including those with temporary, permanent, and life-limiting conditions.

Medequip has stated that it will ensure timely access to high-quality community equipment, supported by robust logistics operations and stock management processes, to meet the region’s diverse needs.

As part of this new service, operations will be delivered from a purpose-built service centre depot on the Evolve site at Melton West Business Park.

Designed with sustainability and efficiency, the new service centre will feature a solar-panelled roof to support green energy use and electric vehicle charge points, aligning with Medequip’s commitment to reducing environmental impact and a landscaped wildflower green wall to enhance biodiversity in the local area.

Steve Smith, General Manager at Medequip, said. “We are thrilled to have been selected to provide this vital service and look forward to working closely with the Commissioners and Prescribers. We also look forward to welcoming colleagues from the current service provider who will be joining the Medequip family from 1 April.”

Johanne Evans, NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB’s Assistant Director for Community Integration, said: “Medequip is the leading provider of community equipment services to local authorities and the NHS across the UK, delivering a wide range of equipment and support to people in their own homes, keeping people independent for longer. I look forward to seeing patients in Hull and East Riding benefit from their experience and expertise.”

Councillor Jonathan Owen, East Riding of Yorkshire cabinet member for Adults, Health and Care, said “It’s great to see this contract awarded, to ensure that East Riding council can continue to support residents who require community equipment, and ensure they are able to access the support they need.”

Councillor Linda Chambers, the portfolio holder for Adult Social Care and Public Health at Hull City Council, said: “This is an important service to our local community that we have jointly commissioned alongside our local authority and NHS partners. As a council, we are committed to supporting our residents to live as independently as possible.”

With the new service centre and its sustainability-focused service model, Medequip is also taking a significant step toward reducing its environmental footprint while improving operational efficiency and equipment availability.

Medequip looks forward to working with the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Kingston upon Hull City Council, and Humber Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to deliver the Community Equipment Service for the people of East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull.

In recent news, Medequip announced that it has partnered with Healthwatch Wirral to collaboratively  gather valuable user feedback on its community equipment loan service operating across the Wirral peninsula.
