KRONENWETTER, Wis. (WSAW) – The Kronenwetter Police Department received $2,000 of new life-saving equipment from Wisconsin Public Service on Wednesday.
The department was gifted a grant from WPS allowing them to purchase defibrillator pads, batteries, and CPR kits.
The new batteries will ensure the defibrillators are always in working order. Chief Terry McHugh says they are often the first responders to the village’s medical emergencies.
“Unlike a normal battery where you could replace it and no harm no foul, on something like an AED where lives are at stake, we can’t take a chance. That’s why we want to be proactive and get these batteries replaced,” McHugh said.
Due to the grant, the department can save money for future expenses.
“This saves the village’s taxpayers and the department the money that we would normally spend getting these replaced,” McHugh said.
The grant is just one part of the $75,000 that WPS is spreading across 42 agencies in their service area.
“It’s an honor for us to be able to continue that commitment by supporting those agencies that are in our communities that are also focused on safety each and every day,” WPS spokesperson Matt Cullen said.
McHugh says every patrol car is outfitted with an AED and an officer who is trained to use it.
