Early 2025 Dutch Tangible Asset Investment Falls 1.4% Year-on-Year – News and Statistics

According to Statistics Netherlands, investment in tangible fixed assets fell compared to the same period a year earlier. The year-on-year decrease measured 1.4 percent for the first month of the year, which was a smaller contraction than the 2.3 percent decline recorded in the preceding month.

The reduction was primarily linked to lower spending on structures, passenger vehicles, and infrastructure projects. In contrast, investment in aircraft showed an increase for that month. The statistical office noted that these specific investment figures were not corrected for calendar effects, as the month in question contained one fewer working day than the same month in the previous year.

The institution provides a monthly assessment of the investment climate through a dedicated visualization tool. This evaluation considers factors such as conditions in sales and financial markets. While these indicators show a correlation with fixed investment trends, an improved climate does not automatically lead to stronger investment growth or a shallower downturn.

For the following month, the investment climate in the country was assessed as being less adverse than in the prior month. This slight improvement was attributed to a rise in industrial capacity utilization and a larger annual increase in exports of goods.
