Council approves land talks for 38 new social homes

The Glasgow City Council committee gave the go-ahead for talks with Linthouse Housing Association regarding the former Davislea Care Home site on Mallaig Road, Drumoyne.

If successful, the negotiations will allow the housing association to build 38 new social homes on the site.

The land, which was declared surplus to council requirements on January 20, consists of three parcels measuring 0.63 acres.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for housing, development, and land use at Glasgow City Council, said: “Today’s decision to begin negotiations with Linthouse Housing Association is good news for this part of Glasgow and the wider city.

“The disposal of this land would both bring 38 much-needed homes for social housing and generate a capital receipt for the council in a challenging environment for public finances.”

The land adjoins the site of the former care home.
