Apple has started notifying customers about important updates to the Apple Cash Terms and Conditions, which are set to coincide with the introduction of new features in iOS 18 and watchOS 11.
Starting October 4, users will need to verify their identity if they wish to send more than a total of $500 in peer-to-peer transfers, including sending Apple Cash via Messages or using the new Tap to Cash feature.
This verification process will be mandatory regardless of whether the funds are being sent from an Apple Cash balance or a linked card in the Wallet app. It’s important to note that past transactions will count toward the $500 threshold, meaning frequent users of Apple Cash may need to verify their identity sooner than expected.
To complete the identity verification, users will need to provide a photo of their driver’s license or ID card, answer personal history questions, and supply details such as their home address, date of birth, and social security number.
This step is designed to ensure secure transactions, especially since Tap to Cash facilitates private in-person exchanges without requiring personal contact information like phone numbers. Additionally, Apple has updated the terms to include Vision Pro as a supported device for Apple Cash, and the service will enforce a weekly peer-to-peer transfer limit of $10,000, applicable to both sent and received funds.
