Barcelona forward Vitor Roque is set to finalise his move to Real Betis today after the two teams agreed on a loan deal for the striker, who reached Seville last night.
Today, he will undergo a medical check-up and complete the paperwork for his loan with Betis.
It must be noted that Roque arrived in Barcelona in January from Athletico Paranaense, with Barcelona paying €30 million upfront plus up to €31 million in add-ons.
During his initial six months at Barcelona, he featured in 16 matches, accumulating 353 minutes of play and scoring two goals in La Liga.
By accepting Betis’ offer, Roque aims to establish himself in European football, a goal that proved challenging at Barcelona due to the presence of Robert Lewandowski.
Details of Roque’s transfer to Real Betis
According to sources, Barcelona will loan Vitor Roque to Real Betis for two seasons wherein Betis will have the option to buy 80% of Roque’s rights for €25 million, with additional performance-based bonuses.
However, Barcelona retain the right to bring Roque back for free at the end of the first season (2024-25) if they choose to. Should Betis decide to exercise their purchase option after the second season, Barcelona will then have the right to repurchase him for €27.5 million.
Typically, Barcelona include a clause in loan agreements to prevent players from facing them while on loan. However, Roque has declined this condition, which means he will be able to play against Barcelona.
This means Roque could face Barcelona on Sunday, December 8, at the Benito Villamarin if selected for the match. Additionally, he may have the chance to visit Barcelona again in April 2025 when the team plays at the revamped Spotify Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, it must be noted that despite these positive steps, Roque will not be available for Betis’ upcoming matches right away.
He will miss the game against Alaves on Sunday and the return leg of the UEFA Conference League play-off against Kryvbas on Thursday. This is because his registration with Betis was not completed before Wednesday night.
If everything goes as planned, Roque’s debut for Real Betis is expected to be against Real Madrid on Sunday, September 1, at the Santiago Bernabeu.
