Doctor shares simple way to stop sweating so much in winter

Despite the plummeting temperatures associated with the cold winter weather, many people can find themselves sweating excessively and a doctor has shared how to beat unwanted winter sweat

A doctor has shared a simple and effective approach to prevent over-sweating during the winter months. As the temperatures plummet outdoors, people look to ramp up the warmth inside – be it by putting the heating on or wearing extra layers of clothing to keep the cold at bay.

This can have the opposite effect though, leading to many people dealing with excessive sweating and overheating – especially at night-time, when our body temperature needs to drop to help signal to the brain that it’s time to sleep.

Winter sweat can be very detrimental to our overall comfort and relaxation but one doctor has taken to social media to share her advice – and a lot of it comes down to people buying the wrong kind of deodorant for their bodies.

Dr Raj Arora is a GP and describes herself as a “health educator and TV doctor” to her 199.1K TikTok followers. On the hit social media platform, she regularly posts videos offering her expert advice and professional insight to help the masses.

In a recent video, she discussed ways of tackling winter sweat. In the caption alongside her video, the doctor penned: “Winter sweat is so real – layers, heating, stress and suddenly you’re sweating more now than you did in summer.

“This isn’t just about temperature, it’s about how your body regulates heat, fabrics you wear and a few habits that make it worse without you realising.

“There are ways to manage it properly from skincare to lifestyle tweaks”.

In the video, she broke down her advice. Speaking directly to the camera while standing in a Boots store, she explained: “Now, when you’re sweating – summer or winter, it’s really important first of all to understand the difference between antiperspirant and a deodorant.

“So, antiperspirants actually help to block the sweat and reduce the sweat whereas deodorants just help to neutralise the odour you get from sweating.”

The doctor then shared her recommendations for products to use. For those dealing with “excessive sweating”, she praised Driclor antiperspirant for its ability to “reduce actual sweating from taking place”.

Dr Raj also showcased Perspirex antiperspirant for “controlling excessive sweating” and stressed those who prefer a spray need to double check packaging for the word “antiperspirant” and “not deodorant”.

She explained: “You do want the ones that have aluminium in them because they can help to reduce sweating, of course.”

For those wanting to avoid aluminium, the doctor said: “If you’re going for something that’s aluminium free, you’re more likely gonna go for deodorants.”

Dr Raj recommended Bionsen which will “help to neutralise the odour but not actually prevent the sweating in the first place”.

She added: “Also, top tip, if you’re using something that’s an antiperspirant for sweat, use it in the nights; use it at night time. It’ll work overnight and help to reduce that sweat by the morning.”
