The Glebe retirement community in Daleville announced an $18 million expansion to double the number of cottages available to residents.
Crews will build 22 independent living cottages â which are single-family homes â ranging in size from 1,520 to 2,525 square feet, a press release said. Glebe officials expect residents to move in during the winter of 2025-2026.
The Glebe opened in 2005, is home to 200 people and features 154 independent living units now, consisting of 133 apartments and 21 cottages. It is operated by a nonprofit organization, LifeSpire of Virginia based in Richmond, and is a continuing care retirement community.
The American Association of Retired Persons, or AARP, said 1,900 CCRCs operate in the United States providing adjustable care levels and housing types based on a residentâs changing needs. âFor example, a resident can start out living independently in an apartment and later transition to assisted living to get more help with daily activities, or to skilled nursing to receive more medical care, while remaining in the same community,â AARP said.
