RAPID CITY, S.D. – Pennington County residents who need to make a payment for property taxes can start soon.
Starting on Monday, April 1, payments will open for the first portion of property taxes. To facilitate easy payments, the property tax drop box will be located in the Pennington County Administration Building and payments can be made 24/7.
Deadline:
Payments will be accepted until midnight April 30. Payments made after the deadline will result in interest added to the account.
Making a payment in-person:
The Pennington County Administration Building location is 130 Kansas City St., Rapid City, S.D., 57701. The drop box will be situated inside the main entrance next to the brightly colored motor vehicle self service terminal on the Kansas City St. side of the building, marked with “Property Taxes” on the box. Only property tax payments will be accepted. Receipts will be mailed to those requesting a return receipt.
The Administration Building is open from Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Payment instructions:
Along with the payment, taxpayers should include the Tax ID number and their current phone number to ensure accurate processing.
Making a payment though the mail:
Property Tax payments may be sent through the mail and must include the payment stubs for each Tax ID number payment, those can be sent the Pennington County Treasurer and mailed to PO Box 6160, Rapid City, S.D., 57709-6160. Payments made through the mail must be postmarked no later than April 30th to avoid interest.
Note: payments sent to the county’s old address or to their physical address will be return to sender.
Making a payment over the phone:
Call the County’s Administration Building at (605) 394-2174, from there it will direct taxpayers to the proper line. Payments must be made before or by 4:30 p.m. April 30. A convenience fee for this method of payment applies.
Making a payment online:
Payments can be made online, here, until the April 30 midnight deadline. However, individuals waiting until the final hour should exercise caution, as heavy usage of this method may result in transactions being completed after the deadline, causing interest charges.
