BANK accounts will be getting free $500 deposits in just a matter of weeks under a new program.
The payments are being sent out every month – but only those who meet three criteria have qualified.
Eligible residents of Harris County, Texas are now awaiting their checks thanks to city of Houston’s new guaranteed income program.
Approximately 1,900 families will benefit from a monthly payment of $500 for 18 months.
Those who applied earlier this year are now eagerly awaiting to find out if they will receive the money.
“The Uplift Harris Pilot application is now closed and all applicants will be notified about their application status in early March,” states a pop-up on the website of Uplift Harris.
A whopping 82,000 people applied, but only 2% of those will be accepted, according to Houston Public Media.
The program has been made possible thanks to funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.
$20.5 million will be distributed to those in need.
Three criteria were required to submit an application.

Only residents in one of the following ten high-poverty zip codes could apply:
- 77050
- 77093
- 77051
- 77060
- 77028
- 77033
- 77026
- 77081
- 77547
- 77091
Secondly, your income had to be below 200% of the Federal Poverty Line for your household size.
For a family of four, that is up to $60,000 a year.
Finally, applicants were required to be 18 years or older.

If you missed out on Uplift Harris, there may be other guaranteed income programs you can apply for.
El Paso County, Texas, recently passed a law that will provide $500 monthly payments to needy families with no strings attached.
Applications are yet to open, but around 130 to 140 households will be eligible for the funds.
Meanwhile, applications open next week for a $318 food payment.
