WATCH: Helicopter deployed to tackle North Wales mountain wildfire

The helicopter has now been deployed to support firefighting operations from the air, while crews on the ground continue working alongside Natural Resources Wales to establish and maintain firebreaks to limit the spread of the fire.

Due to the scale and complexity of the incident, the fire service said resources are likely to remain at Rhinogydd for the next couple of days to monitor conditions, assess the situation and respond quickly to any flare-ups.

The wildfire has prompted a large-scale response involving multiple agencies, with North Wales Fire and Rescue Service thanking colleagues from Natural Resources Wales, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service for their continued support and expertise.

Elsewhere, firefighters have also been tackling a wildfire on Bangor Mountain since yesterday evening, where crews are using beaters and dampening down hotspots to contain the blaze.

As a precaution, fire crews continue to monitor conditions at several other locations across North Wales, including Pentre Halkyn, Mount Pleasant in Brymbo, the mountain above Capelulo near Sychnant Pass, Hope Mountain in Flintshire and Pentrefelin in Holyhead.

The latest update follows several days of intense wildfire activity across the region, with crews previously carrying out tactical burns and creating firebreaks in the Rhinogydd mountains while working to protect nearby forestry.

Smoke has also affected parts of North Wales in recent days, prompting repeated public health advice for residents to remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed where necessary.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police are continuing to urge people to stay away from affected areas, warning that visitors travelling to wildfire sites to take photographs or videos can put themselves at risk and obstruct emergency access.

The fire service is also reminding the public to take extra care in the countryside while conditions remain extremely dry.

People are being urged not to use disposable barbecues, to ensure cigarettes are fully extinguished, to take litter home and never leave glass bottles behind, as they can increase the risk of wildfire.

Anyone who spots signs of a fire is advised to move to a safe location and call 999 immediately.
