“The Guardia di Finanza is celebrating its 252nd anniversary. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the men and women of the Corps for the dedication and self-sacrifice with which they serve Italia every day.” This is what the Deputy Minister for the Economy and Finance, Maurizio Leo, stated in a press release. “I have a deep connection with the Guardia di Finanza, forged over more than forty years of teaching at the Corps’ training and specialisation schools. This experience has allowed me to get to know a community of extraordinary people at first hand and to appreciate, day after day, their expertise, professionalism and ability to tackle the most complex challenges.” “Today,” explains Leo, “the Guardia di Finanza is unquestionably an indispensable bulwark of the rule of law for our nation. The Corps’ work makes a decisive contribution to combating tax evasion, smuggling and all those economic crimes that harm the community by depriving our citizens of precious resources.” “Our thanks,” adds Leo, “also go to the Corps for its contribution to the process of tax reform. Through its presence and professionalism, the Guardia di Finanza plays a leading role in bringing the key aspects of a reform that is profoundly changing the Italian tax system to the local level, making it fairer, more transparent and more modern.” “Finally,” he concludes, “the thoughts of the entire nation go out to the officers who have fallen in the line of duty: men and women who have sacrificed their lives to defend the rule of law and the security of Italia, with courage and the highest sense of duty to the State.”
