GHENT, WV (WVNS) — New River Community and Technical College has announced a new heavy machinery program at their Advanced Technology Center in Ghent.
Raleigh County essay contest winners recognized
The program began on April 14 and will run until August 1, Monday through Thursday.
Jimmy Lilly, Heavy Equipment Operation Instructor, said this program is incredibly beneficial to those who pass the course.
“This gives kids straight from high school or anybody the chance to come to our facility, get trained properly, learn the do’s and don’t’s when it comes to equipment. By the time they graduate, they’re ready to hit the field, have that safe knowledge and have that seat time that’s required to find them a profession in their trade,” said Lilly.
Lilly said participants in the program will learn to operate dozers, skid steers, mini excavators, and backhoes.
He said the program is aligned with OSHA safety and industry-best standards in mind.
